Diablo III to Arrive Before StarCraft II?

If recent rumors are true, then the Blizzard Express will be arriving in Tristram before it makes any stops in Aiur.

The fervent Blizzard fans over at Battleforums.com claim that an anonymous source from inside Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo III will be released before StarCraft II. This source was quoted as saying "[StarCraft 2] is still being worked on, but only by a minuscule amount of people compared to what [Blizzard] put on the Diablo 3 team." While shifting resources from one game to another, or rather from a game close to completion to a just announced title, is not bizarre by any means, the lack of details behind both games leave some gray area that can only be filled in by Blizzard.

Ever the silent party, Blizzard had only the following to say: "We're pleased with the development progress on both StarCraft II and Diablo III and are looking forward to sharing more news about both games at next month's BlizzCon event. Development is proceeding at full speed on both games, but we do not currently have any release dates to announce for either game." Regardless, both titles are experiencing an equal amount of fanfare and anticipation, and it looks as though next month's BlizzCon will act as the main stage for whatever details Blizzard decides to make public.

In any event, it now seems certain that StarCraft II will not be released this year as many fans had hoped (a December 3rd release date listed on some major online retailers' Web sites teased quite a few gamers this summer). Furthermore, it appears the recent Diablo III art direction flap hasn't slowed down Blizzard. The game's art director, Brian Morrisroe, departed Blizzard last month amid protests from fans over Diablo III's visuals, particularly its brighter colors and stronger lighting.

While Diablo and StarCraft fan boys are still climbing the fence for details, World of WarCraft fans can rest a little easier today. Wrath of the Lich King has been dated and priced, and will hit store shelves on November 23rd for $40. Activision also announced a Collector's Edition of the expansion, which on top of the game will include a 200-plus page art book, mouse pad, trading cards, official soundtrack, behind the scenes DVD, and an exclusive in-game pet.
